HM The Kings Birthday

The birthday of the King is celebrated with much aplomb and gaiety on the auspicious date of 5th December. The King Bhumibol Adulyadej, has been a monarch for a long time now and is thus revered. The event is known formally as 'Wan Chalerm'. Thus his birthday has always been very special for the people and is much awaited by the people.

The events on the special day are as follows:

On The 5th December all homes and buildings are decorated with flags and other decorations and the palace is elaborately adorned. The Grand Palace and other areas of the place are decorated in vibrant colors and the place takes on a festive color.
In the evenings people throng the streets and are witnesses to the spectacular fireworks on the streets.
The entire atmosphere is very colorful and vibrant.
Portraits of the king are hung everywhere in homes and buildings.
On 5th December during the morning the people go to the temples to make offerings to the monks.
A huge concert is organizes in Sanam Luang during evenings in front of Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok. Singers are invited to render songs and some of the songs are composed by the king himself.
The Ratchadamnoen Avenue is filled with lights and flags.
Lastly the king also gives his special birthday speech.

Thus The King's birthday is a very important event in the Thai calendar and is looked forward to by all people of Thailand.
