Songkran Festival
Thailand goes on to celebrate The Thai New Year in the form of Songkran festival held annually every year on April13th. This is a very important festival in Thailand celebrated with much aplomb and gaiety. The main feature of the festival includes sprinkling of water on the revered statue of Buddha and then later sprinkling water on each other's hands as a symbol of wishing each other a good year ahead. The festival is a huge favorite with children who take this opportunity to plunge into water fights and tussles.
The festival is held every year with huge celebrations. It is actually a water festival as many fell that water cleanses all sorrows and ill omens. This festival is an acknowledgement of the Thai traditions and values.

The Songkran Festival goes on to see a bathing ritual for lord Buddha images and monks. The most important celebration is however held at Chiang Mai from 13th to 15thApril. People flock to see the ritual and also be a part of the other events like Miss Songkran and other fashion parades. The festival is celebrated in all parts of Thailand.

The Songkran Festival is held at various places like Chiang Mai, Nong Khai, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Phanom, Songkhla and Chonburi.

All those who wish to be a part of this auspicious occasion must book the hotels as soon as possible as there is every possibility of hotels not being available at the last minute.
The festival can be reached by buses leaving daily from Bangkok-both ordinary and air conditioned buses are available. Cars are also available along with flights from Bangkok to Sukhothai. Train services are also there.
