Umbrella & Handicrafts Fair
The Bo Sang and San Kamphaeng villages of Chiang Mai organize the Umbrella & Handicrafts Fair. Bo sang produces beautiful paper umbrellas of beautiful colors and various unique motifs while San Kamphaeng produce fabrics and silks that are famous all over the world. The Umbrella & Handicrafts Fair is held on the third weekend of every January at Bo Sang Handicraft Center in Chiang Mai. The fair includes displays of various beautiful umbrellas and other artifacts but also other cultural performances and competitions.

Important features of the Umbrella & Handicrafts Fair:

The Bo Sang umbrellas are made from mulberry paper and silk and are available in dazzling colors. The motifs that are painted on the parasols are usually floral.

Traditional lanterns are also exhibited in the fair.

The craft shops are places on the sides of the High Street.

A grand parade takes place featuring the beautiful umbrellas and there is also a beauty contest organized in Bo Sang.

You can buy exclusive handicrafts at the Umbrella & Handicrafts Fair and also eat northern style "Khan Toke" meals.

The Bo Sang umbrellas have won the "Best Souvenir" prize at the International Tourism Seminar held in Los Angeles, USA.
