Al Ain International Airport is the second Airport in Abu Dhabi. It is located
13 kilometers North West of Al Ain. It came into operation on 31st March 1994.Since
then it has put all efforts to cater to the needs of its growing traffic in an
efficient way. An expansion programme is already at an advanced stage of planning.
Eight airlines are operating out of the Al Ain International Airport. These airlines
are- Gulf Air, Pakistan International Airlines, Alia Royal Jordanian, Egypt Air,
Qatar Airways, Krasnoyarsk Fras Air, Sudan Air, Shaheen Air and Oman Air. To meet
the forecast traffic growth Al Ain International Airport is to be expanded with,
a doubling of the size of the departure lounge and check-in area, increasing office
facilities, a dedicated cargo terminal, bonded warehouse and hi-tech airline in-flight
catering facility as well as improved facilities for ramp operations. At present,
temporary facilities are being used to provide in-flight catering and cargo services.
At present the Al Ain International. Airport has one runway 4km (2.5 miles)
long, five passenger aircrafts parking areas and two parking areas for cargo
planes.
Al Ain International Airport is also disabled friendly and the terminal building
is accessible to the wheelchairs users. It also has toilets for disabled. A
medical center is also located in the main terminal building of the Al Ain International
Airport. A picnic area and a children's playground is also available in the
gardens of the airport. One can also change their money and make free local
calls from the Al Ain International Airport.
Passengers are also provided with restaurants and duty free shopping facilities
in this International Airport of Al Ain. One can find a restaurant in the main
lobby and another in the transit area. Shoppers too, will find just about everything
they need at the recently extended Goodbuy shop on the check-in concourse, in
the new arrivals shop.
There are no car hire companies in the airport but a few city center companies
can be contacted for dropping the passengers off and also for receiving them.
Moreover the passengers can also use the local bus service.
Although this International Airport in Al Ain is smaller as compared to Abu
Dhabi International Airport when the improvement programme is completed it will
be among the most modern airports in the region.
