This country emerged as a result of the unification of seven self-governing
sheik-ruled emirates: Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah
and Umm al-Qaiwain. Before the Unification it was known as Trucial Oman.
The details of each of the seven Emirates of UAE is given below:
Abu Dhabi: It is the federal capital of the United Arab Emirates and
is the largest Emirate in the UAE. The name Abu Dhabi means 'Father of the Gazelle'.
The central part of the emirate is found on an Island known as Abu Dhabi City,
and the island was connected to the mainland by two bridges. Abu Dhabi City
is a beautiful garden city of boulevards, green parks, and water fountains.

Dubai: This emirate of the UAE is one of the fastest growing economies
of the world and a favorite tourist destination for both business and leisure
travelers. Because of its famous Gold market it is also known as the City of
Gold. Dubai is also the venue of many major world class-sporting events such
as the Dubai Desert Classic Gulf Tournament, the ATP-sanctioned Dubai Tennis
Championships, the Dubai Sevens (Rugby Meetings), the Emirates Grand Prix (offshore
Power Boat Championship), the UAE Desert Challenge, and the Dubai World Cup
(the
World's richest horse race).
Sharjah or Ash Sharigah : This emirate of UAE is the third largest and
renowned for its beautiful architectural buildings, mosques museums and Islamic
designed sougs. This city of Kalba is one of favorite destinations for many
and is fastest growing economy. It is famous for its backwaters and surrounding
mangrove forest.
Total Population: 636,000
Fujairah: Covering an area of 1150 square Kilometers this emirate of
UAE is the fourth largest in terms of area and sixth in terms of population.
Due its well-developed infrastructure traveling in and around Fajuirah has grown
over the years. Access to the surrounding towns of khor, Fakkan, kalba and Masafi
has become easier due to the development of modern highways.

Ajman: With an area of just 250 sq. kilometer this is the smallest of all the
seven emirates of UAE. It has a good number of fast food restaurants, Cinema
halls and shopping malls.

Ras al-Khaimah: This emirate of the UAE covers an area of around 656 sq. miles.
It is located in the Northern part of UAE and borders Oman. This emirate is
also known as Julfer.
Population: 250000
UMM al-Quain: It is one of the seven emirates of UAE and covers an area of
750 sq. kilometers. This emirate is ruled by Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Mualla.
It is famous for its multi million dirham dreamland aqua par. It attracts thousands
of visitors every year. This Emirate of UAE is also a good place for people
who like to enjoy bird watching and sailing.
