The Death Anniversary of Tran Hung Dao is one such example. In Ho Chi Minh City the Death Anniversary of Tran Hung Dao it is celebrated at various venues throughout the city, but the biggest ceremony is held at the Tran Hung Dao Temple. Special rituals and prayers are conducted in memory of the 18th century hero on this day.
Tran Hung Dao was a Vietnamese Grand Commander-in-Chief in the 18th century. Born as Tran Quoc Tuan he commanded the Dai Viet armies that drove back three major Mongol invasions in the 13th century. The wars that he led to victory under Kublai Khan are believed to be among the greatest military feats in world history. His military aptitude and prowess is apparent in his many treatises on warfare. It is said that the general, is one of the very few in history, to have never lost a battle or war under his command.
Every year, on the 20th day of the eighth lunar month, Vietnamese people honor this great hero on his death anniversary.
