Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city of Vietnam and is its economic capital. It’s a city which has moved ahead with the times and has emerged as one of the leading centers of trade in Asia. The Le Van Duyet Festival is celebrated on the death anniversary of a national hero Le Van Duyet. The festival is celebrated in the Le Van Duyet Temple that is dedicated to this patriot and his wife. This death anniversary is celebrated on the 1st day of the 8th lunar month although sometimes the festivities do start well in advance. In fact the festival continues even after the official ceremony.

Traditional rituals characteristic to southern Vietnam are performed during this festival. In addition, Vietnamese opera is [performed in front of the temple. Devotees burn incense during this ceremony. It is also customary to consult the oracle about ones life, marriage, work or ones wishes for prosperity promotion etc. during this season.


The Le Van Duyet Festival, though not the most important festival in Ho Chi Minh City is a rather interesting festival celebrated in this city. It’s a good idea to time your stay in the city with this festival. Do visit!
