Ho Chi Minh City or Saigon is the largest city of Vietnam and is its economic capital. The city is ideally placed and is close to many popular tourist attractions of Vietnam. The city itself boasts of some fabulous places for sightseeing. Cholon district boasts of colorful pagodas and fascinating traditional markets. The city has numerous museums and official buildings which give you an insight into the history of Vietnam and the city.

Saigon was officially renamed Ho Chi Minh City in honor of Ho Chi Minh a famous Vietnamese revolutionary and freedom fighter. The City has also named a Square after this revered figure. Ho Chi Minh square is bordered by the imposing City Hall, the beautiful Rex Hotel and numerous French and Vietnamese restaurants.

Wreaths are laid and memorial trees are planted in this square on Ho Chi Minh’s birthday. The Square also has an enormous statue of Ho Chi Minh reading a book to a child. This site is very popular with tourists and makes quiet a “pretty picture”. This has been nicknamed Uncle Ho’s statue.

Ho Chi Minh Square and Ho Chi Minh’s statue was inaugurated in December 2004.Since then, this historic site has been a visiting spot for locals and foreign people alike as well as a spot for the organization of political and cultural activities.

If you are out to explore the city on foot then a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Square is a good idea as it is ideally placed in the city centre and is quite close to a lot of tourist destinations.
