Museum of Ho Chi Minh City
Vietnam - Hoi An - Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City - Hue
The Ho Chi Minh City Museum is housed in a building that was formerly the palace of the Governor of Cochin-china. It was also the office of the Imperial Delegate the King's special envoy and under Nguyen Van Thieu’s regime it was called “The Supreme Court”. It is also known as the Revolutionary Museum. It showcases artifacts like weapons, uniforms, medals and old photos and other paraphernalia belonging to the period of Communist struggle against the French and the Americans. Sadly, the exhibits are only labeled in the Vietnamese language. However a lot of these artifacts are self-explanatory. Just outside the building there is a collection of military hardware including a tank and a helicopter.
The exhibits relating to the General Uprising in the Mau Than Spring (1968) and the historical Ho Chi Minh campaign (1975) are especially fascinating.
The museum spans an area of 1200 square meters. The exhibits of the museum include.
- Ho Chi Min City’s nature and archaeological objects
- Ho Chi Min City’s inhabitants
- Ho Chi Min City’s foundation and development
- Ho Chi Min City’s economics and culture
- Ho Chi Min City’s revolutionary struggles (periods 1930 - 1954 and 1954 - 1975)
