Hue Airport
Vietnam - Hoi An - Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City - Hue
Hue, the imperial city complex of the Thua Thien-Hue province of Vietnam, and the former capital of the Nguyen Dynasty in the 19th century has been declared by the UNESCO to be a World Heritage Site, and attracts a great number of visitors, which sometimes goes up to around 12,000 in one day. Hue however is not directly connected to the rest of the world as far as air travel is concerned. However, there is a Hue Airport that connects it to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, from where people can access Hue.
The Hue Airport, called the Phú Bài Airport, is situated just south of the city. Presently, Vietnam Airlines is the sole airline serving the Hue Airport, with numerous daily flights from Hanoi (Noi Bai International Airport), and Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat International Airport).
The Hue Airport lies at an elevation of AMSL 49 ft (15 m), and is situated on the co-ordinates of 16°24?06?N, 107°42?10?E. The details of the runway, whose surface is made of Asphalt, are as follows -
Direction - 09/27
Length - 8,775 feet, 2,675 meters
On October 2005, the Hue Airport officially introduced its first international flight, with the charter flight operated by Austrian Airlines carrying Austrian tourists from Luang Prabang, Laos. This happened after the Vietnamese Government gave it the go-ahead to receive international flights, in 2002.
Access to and from the Hue Airport is quite convenient, as it is not situated very far from the center of the town, being located 15kms south-east of the city. One can avail of the airport bus, which waits right outside the airport and which goes to the hotels in the heart of the city, as well as to guest-houses, for a minimal charge of only about US$1. For getting back to the Airport, one can catch the bus from the Vietnam Airlines branch office. Outside the Hue Airport one can also find metered taxis, which cost about US$7-8.
People, who want to visit Hue, can get into the city by means of train, bus or even avail of the waterways. But, for those who prefer flying, there is the Hue Airport, which is connected to Saigon and Ho Chi Minh City, and makes it convenient to get into the city.
