Sinh Village Festival Hue
Vietnam - Hoi An - Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City - Hue
The wrestling competition takes place on the 10th day of the 1st month of every lunar year. During this day, every year after the Tet holiday the villagers of the Sinh village come to the temple to worship the ancestor (founder) of wrestling art "chop trees to have wood, saw wood to make the scaffolds" at a place just at the left of the Lai An market. This wrestling competition of Sinh village is a beautiful way of respecting and propagating the tradition of respecting the spirit of martial arts that has been developed by their ancestors and has been an important part of their culture for the past 6 centuries.
The attraction of this wrestling festival day at Sinh village is much more than that of the 3 Tet days. Beside the youths of the village, thousands of boys and girls come here from the various districts, and from the Capital Hue to participate or enjoy the festival. The participants wrestle in the earthen-floored wrestling ring platform that is more the one-meter high; each side is about 4 "arms spreads" long built just in front of the communal house where the founder of this martial art is honored.
A young referee and an older prestigious person in the village with a black turban and a long robe direct the competition. The competition lasts for one day. The preliminary rounds are held in the morning and those who can win successively 3 matches can come to the final.
