Truyen Lo Festival Hue
Vietnam - Hoi An - Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City - Hue
Truyen Lo Festival is a part of the Hue Festival and includes demonstration of rituals performed at Truyen Lo. Truyen Lo Festival, Hue is a royal ceremony held solemnly, once in every three years to call names of new winners of court examinations. The sheer magnitude of the festival is awe-inspiring with mandarins, soldiers, ceremonial music troupes, new court examination winners and judges, high-ranking mandarins lining up to wait for the procession of the King and the Golden Board, in the morning. The names of the winners are written on the board and the procession continues to the Ngo Mon (Noon Gate) - the main gate of the forbidden citadel in Hue. It is here on the Ngo Mon floor, where the ceremony begins after everybody has taken their correct positions, with people arranging themselves by rank.
Once all is set, the judging mandarin presents the results of court exams while another mandarin leads the winners to kowtow in front of the Noon Gate and then back to the queue, after which they must stand on the left. After permission from the King, the mandarin from the Ministry of Rites reads the royal decree to confer titles to the winners of court exams. The winners on hearing their names go in front of the King and expresse their gratitude.
On conclusion of the truyen lo rituals, the King and his entourage return to
the palace while the others join a parade from Ngo Mon to Phu Van Lau, a place
by the Huong (Perfume) river, to post up the Golden Board.
