First of all I would to thank you all the good review from websites, it led me to The Southgate and now it becomes my home in NYC. It is located the center of Manhattan, which is close to shopping (Macy's is only a block away), sightseeing (Times Square), transport (Penn Station is across the road) then this is for you. This was fantastic as it meant that we could eat in and eat out and store and reheat food as we favor. Additional, hotel meaning each room/suite has its own kitchen which utensils, fridge, cooker and microwave. Because of this the rooms are much, much bigger than you would normally get in New York. There is a deli next door. The rooms have a bug work desk with lamp and high-speed Internet access ($10 per 24hr). The staff in all areas of the hotel, from reception, restaurant, housekeeping etc were friendly and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
I also felt very safe in the hotel. The rooms were clean, spacious, and modestly decorated. I am one who brilliants it.

| "The Southgate is a very nice hotel and is located right across from Penn Station. It's also walking distant to Times Square. The suite I stayed in is delightful. The only drawback for me was the noise. I hear siren from the streets every morning and I was staying on the 18th floor. " |

We stayed at the Southgate last month having seen the excellent reviews on voyagenow.org was not at all disappointed - had a 1 bedroom suite with 2 double beds, decor and layout was very much like the virtual tour on the Affinia website. The location is central for public transport with Penn Station (Metro, Amtrak, New Jersey and Long Island links) opposite the hotel. The Southgate has the best of both worlds with spacious, well appointed rooms and the benefits of a large hotel (restaurant, fitness room etc on site). I have stayed at several different NY hotels in different locations (including the Waldorf for 2 nights on this visit) over the last 8 years and the Southgate is now top of my list. The M20 bus also provides a good service to the lower West Side and uptown. Macy's, Herald Square and the Empire State are five minutes walk away. Starbucks is opposite (although I thoroughly recommend Niles for breakfast - stops at 10am though).
There is a fire station below the hotel, which causes some noise daytime and evening, but we had no problems sleeping. On the whole, I can't fault the Southgate and look forward to my next visit." |

We made an online booking a studio apartment for our last weekend. SO we got a big deal with the price. Hotel situated just across the road from Penn St Station (all the express subway trains on the applicable routes seem to stop there as well as the local ones), I found it remarkably convenient for sightseeing (Empire State Building and the tourist heliports are an easy walk) and wandering about. Broadband cost $10 plus tax per 24 hrs in the room here. The room was unspectacular, but clean (aircon is a bit old, but probably drowns the noise of passers by and traffic), and I welcomed the 24 hour deli just next door and nearby take away (there aren't that many good restaurants nearby). The kitchen seemed good enough (but I only used the fridge and a kettle I bought myself!). Were I to need a place for more than a couple of days as a couple, I would not go for a studio. This isn't a particularly smart part of town (but I never felt I was likely to get mugged). Staff seemed friendly, polite and helpful - I would come here again." |

| "The describtion of this hotel is Fantastic. The room we got, 2603, the a wonderful onebed room suite. It includes a terrace that you could park two cars on ( if it wasn't on the 26th floor) with a view of The Empire State building, both rivers and Time Square in the distance up 7th and Maddisson Square Garden just below! The Suite is the one of the biggest I have ever stayed in...massive living room, 2 TVs, internet comnnection, two bathrooms and a little kitchen. OK its not brand spanking new and probably wasn't twenty years ago and the AC is not the latest but it is generally very clean and well maintained. All the staff have been very nice and helpful. If you are after something swanky, stay elsewhere but for comfort, character, space and service, for under $200, its hard to beat." |

It was fabulous hotel, I have stay here for 10 days. Our room was a one bedroom suite with a full kitchen. The room was clean and the cleaning service staff was excellent. Yes the bathroom was small, but hopefully if you are in New York you aren't going to be spending quality time in the bathroom anyway. Just do your business in the bathroom and move on with your life. The staff was very professional and helpful, which is rare in NY. We stayed on the 22nd floor and had a great view of the Empire State Building. Times Square was a short walking distance away as well as Manhattan Mall. We walked practically everywhere we went. Canal Street was a short taxi drive away and you must visit Canal Street. That was the most fun we had ever had shopping in our lives. I would encourage everyone to stay at the Southgate Tower. We would like to return around Thanksgiving next year. I will definitely stay here again. Thank you Southgate for making our trip to New York memorable." |
