"What can I say, you pay for what you get! Small room with a bathroom where the hot water does not flow often and it is very essential to me as I was there during the winter (Jan 2008). But I must say, the location is perfect, short walking distance to Times Square which is the heart of NYC! Just outside the hotel is a 24hr shop where you can buy some food and groceries. Perfect if you want a hotel room with no frills. If you are going to be out of the hotel for the whole day touring NYC, then the hotel is suitable for you just for sleeping purposes. Don't expect pampering!"

" We found the hotel was in an ideal location and staff really friendly. New York was in the grip of a bad wintry week when we got there and on waking up on the first morning I did find the heating had not been adequately working overnight so was frozen. This was soon rectified on the following night and room service did provide us with blankets as the bedding was a bit thin and not really good for the winter season. The rooms are small, but they always are in major cities, even in some big hotels. Ask for a room at the back of hotel as it is quieter and for more space a corner room. A good tip is to ask the doorman to organize you a sedan car to go back to the airport was only $49 which when it costs you about $$5 in a taxi from the airport once you've added on tips works out a bargain. As this rate on the sedan includes tips and tolls etc. The bagels were great in the morning although I'd get up early if you want a choice on type of bagel. The hotel is right around the corner from the Ed Sullivan theatre where the David Letterman Show is done and also round the corner from Broadway Theatre, where Bombay Dreams is and near the theatre where Mamma Mia is.Good tip - Go to the NYC tourist office on 7th Ave - 1 block across from hotel, they have loads of discount vouchers off allsorts. The deli/store across road from hotel is great for any food and drink supplies also. Cherry Pepsi and Diet Coke with Lime are bliss! Good food at Applebee's on Broadway and Roxy's Deli has amazing cheesecakes and friendly staff.. WE LOVED IT."

" My friends and I went for a night out in NYC, we searched all the discount hotel websites and Ameritania Hotel was one of the cheapest. We didn't know what to expect. First of all, the location is great. You are within walking distances of Time Square. The lobby has a very trendy modern look and the staff is extremely friendly not to mention ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. There were 4 - 20'something year old girls working behind the counter. The room isn't huge but very comfortable. It was clean and the furniture was new. The bathroom has also been remodeled recently also. All around, a good place to stay!!!"

" We visited NYC for the first time in June 2003. I chose the Ameritania Hotel over the internet and wasn't sure what to expect. However, upon arrival we were very happy with our choice. The hotel is colorful and fun with modern decor and the lounge off the lobby is a great quiet place for a drink after a day of walking around the City. After reading all the reviews I expected our room to be a tiny closet, but we were very happy with the size of our room. Our party of four was very comfortable and we loved our view. Ask for a corner room, you get more windows and a little extra space! The Ameritania is in a great location and the bagel breakfast was a great way to start off a NY morning. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone."

" Ameritania was our home away from home on our annual mother-daughter weekend in the Big Apple! This time we went to New York to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday. I happened to mention this to the very friendly staff at reception when checking in, and on our return to our room that first night, the General Manager had left us a bottle of California merlot with a personal note. Very nice touch; exceeded my expectation!! We had 2 double beds in our spacious room, a desk, walk in closet and very roomy bathroom. While admiring the lobby decor (contemporary and simplistic) we realized that Ameritania looked very much like The Marcel, where we had stayed last summer. Once in our room we confirmed that the 2 indeed belong to a chain of boutique hotels called Amsterdam Hospitality Group. We intend to try out all the other locations!! But next time, I will ask specifically for a non-smoking room on a non-smoking floor because the hallway on our floor (5th) reeked of stale cigarette smoke. Overall, the great location, clean stylish room, fresh bagel breakfasts and friendly staff more than made up for the smell."

" I just stayed at this hotel this past week and had a great time. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I was concerned after reading the reviews so I called them up and upgraded to a king size room and bed for an extra $20. The room was very nice. All be it older but I enjoy that type of atmosphere. The design was classic yet industrial and funky. They had a special parking price of $20 for overnight. We really enjoyed ourself and the price was right!"

" On the advice of a collague, my husband booked the Ameritania for his business trip. Myself and our 2 small children, as well as my mom were all sharing a room. After reading reviews here, I was very skeptical.but this was a great hotel in an extremely good location. If you re a high We found the room small but comfortable. The lights are low, but so what? Get out and enjoy the city. Broadway is around the corner. David Letterman is next door. We walked to Central Park. Water pressure was fine and plenty of hot water. We always felt secure. Overall, staff were helpful and polite (although the doorman tried to talk us into taking the hotel's car to La Guardia ($35 plus toll and tip) instead of taking a cab ($18 plus tip). The breakfast is skimpy, but the coffee's great! The floor with smoking rooms smells, but ours (9th floor) was fine. It is a budget hotel, we recommend it. "
