"Service was OK, but I think this hotel is more 2 star than 3 star. The bed was a little too firm and not in a great spot. On the second morning the shower was only lukewarm. The morning we arrived we went to breakfast and it did not look too clean, although the next two days it seemed better. The omlettes were not cooked right through, but the croissants were the best we had in Vietnam. My daughter and I did have a foot massage, which was good, but overall, I would not stay here again."

"This hotel I found rather basic and therefore was overpriced. The big drawback was having to cross the road to have breakfast or afternoon tea. The bar in the hotel which claimed to be open from 11am was usually unattended until 5pm."

"The 2 Superior Rooms we had were not cleaned. The bathrooms' showers had black and red water / mildew stains all over. The corners of the bathrooms were molded and dusty. The bathroom's shower did not drained efficiently causing water to overflow. The sofa's seats were stained and dirty. The bed sheets were dirty, causing me to itch all over. The rooms do not have air-conditioners so they smell musty and not pleasant. The outside temp. were around 18 degrees Celsius when we were there and the windows were left opened, and it was still pretty uncomfortably hot and musty. At the rate of $97 per night, this was not a good stay for us."

"Staff was incredibly helpful and professional. Room was nicely appointed. Location is great with a short and pleasant walk to the city center. Great panoramic view. A bit inconvenient to walk across the street to dine but only because the weather was awful during out stay. Larry's Bar at the adjacent Sofitel was a nice way to relax after a long day of touring. The hotel could use a couple more computer terminals but it was nice to have internet access for those of us not traveling with laptops."

Comments:

We decided to treat ourselves to a 4 star experience with a deluxe room in the Dalat Novotel and we were very very disappointed. The architecture was superb but the hotel has no atmosphere and no compromise to its Vietnamese surroundings - we could have been in Sydney, London or anywhere in the world. Housekeeping was extremely lack lustre with the bed not being made, glasses & cups not washed, soap etc not being replaced - all in all a very poor effort. We had no hot water - twice, and the lobby bar, advertised as being open from 11am to 11pm, appeared to operate within hours known only to the staff. The room was also the noisiest we stayed in during our 4 weeks in Vietnam - a very difficult achievement given the noise of the traffic in Hanoi!. All in all I would only recommend this hotel to a business traveller, or those who prefer this 'generic' style of accommodation. The hotel did not represent value for money and we experienced better service, larger rooms and greater attention to detail from the 2 & 3 star hotels (bar 1) we stayed in while travelling in Vietnam.
