"Great family-run hotel in the centre of Hoi An. It felt more like a B&B in chinese style rather than a bland hotel room. Very friendly reception staff and there are several Vinh Hung hotels so there is access to other facilities (eg pool) not at the hotel itself. Pretty decent breakfast. We were staying for our honeymoon and everyone was very sweet - we even got the personal touch of 'happy honeymoon' roses on arrival. We would definitely recommend staying in the centre of Hoi An (nothing beats a midday siesta!) rather than having to bike or taxi in from the beach resort area. However, as cars are not allowed in the centre of Hoi An, work out with your taxi driver or the hotel beforehand how to get your bags to the hotel but it's a short scooter drive from the traffic area. Also, we missed it but every full moon all the town's lights are extinguished and lanterns are lit instead. We think it would be worth it if you can time your trip accordingly. Only warning is that the road from Da Nang airport is in need of repair. We can definitely recommend taking the hotel's taxi service, you don't want to do the 45 min trip in a dodgy taxi that smells of petrol fumes like we did! Our final suggestion is to hunt down the expat Aussies living there (there are a couple) for dining and tourist recommendations - well worth it. Keep an eye out for the cafe / restaurant with the aussie flag."

"My wife and I split our stay in Hoi An (ie. 1 night in the old city and 2 nights at a beach resort). We chose the "Michael Caine room" at the Vinh Hung I for our old city stay. We were not disappointed and recommend the Michael Caine room for younger adventure travellers and romantics, but, for only short stays. The cosy ambience of the chinese style room and the red lanterns outside created a very romantic setting in the evening. The dark interior of the Michael Caine room would probably be quite depressing for longer stays we think. We do not recommend for seniors or families because of the steep climb up the steps to the Michael Caine room. Breakfast was rather ordinary. Bathroom leaked abit and designed for short people, but, we took account of the building's age. Lucky my wife and I are short so it didn't bother us too much. The location is superb, it's right in the heart of the old city. The hotel staff were genuinely friendly, responsive and helpful, and so this made up for any shortcomings mentioned. Yes, we would return for another short stay when visiting Hoi An. "

"Very convenient to all attractions and shopping. Excellent breakfast, great buffet."

"We stayed in one of the new but old-looking rooms, with the dark paneling, and at first we didn't think we would like it. But then after the first day, we decided it was perfect for the area. The location was wonderful, and there are lots of great restaurants nearby.... perfect for walking around in the Old Town. Since there is no vehicle traffic on the street where the hotel is located, we had to walk about two blocks to get there. But the hotel sent someone to meet us and carry our bags. We definitely would stay there again!"

"We passed a special night in the Michael Caine room full of antiques. The bathroom was small and dingy but the room was great. Front desk was very helpful in overcoming an initial booking misunderstanding. Breakfasts were fine and position is great for exploring the town. Stairs up to the two special rooms were very steep."

"Stayed in the superb room but bathroom really small. If you want to stay in a typical chinese merchants house then this is the place but very steep stairs to reach room and also authentic interior is very dark and tends to make the rooms look a little dingy."

"This hotel is small, sweet and idyllic, in the best location in hoi an. The staff are lovely and helpful. NB the swimming pool is not located on the premises. But you have full access to the pool, which is located in the second hotel, not far - a quick walk. The only thing to note, the rooms are a bit cramped if you were intending to spend a long time in them during the day, but in Hoi An, who would? "

"The swimming pools are nice - if it is warm enough, and the location is quite convenient. Moto drivers hang around outside and we found them great for taking us (including our kids) on a tour to the Marble Mountains into the local countryside and to the beaches. Also, there is some very inexpensive local laundry services right outside the hotel. The staff were helpful."

"This review is actually for Vinh Hung 2. We asked for and were confirmed for Vinh Hung 1, but apparently an error was made somewhere and we had to be reassigned to Vinh Hung 2. Not a good start. Location of #2 is fine, but not much else positive to be said. Most rooms look out onto very noisy streets that surround the hotel. Motorbikes will keep you awake at night and I had roosters on my side of the hotel that insisted on waking me up at 5am with their crowing. Not a huge deal, since equally loud trucks start rolling by at 5:30am. Then, one of my friends had to change rooms 3 times. First one was home to three large cockroaches (I only had ants to contend with) and the second one had an under-functioning A/C. Other issues.... While some of you may like firm mattresses, these thin foam-only pads felt like they must have been bought from a former prison, and they actually stunk. The rooms were also lit by flourescent lights, which don't exactly give them a 'homey' feel. The desk staff were the least friendly I've come across in my travels in SE Asia. The breakfast was utterly terrible -- worst I've had in a hotel, ever. The internet was ridiculously priced. And they have zero flexibility for late checkout: if you want to stay past noon, you have to pay 50% of the rate. I've probably fogotten or repressed some of the other unpleasant aspects of this place, but this should be enough to give you a flavour. Perhaps Vinh Hung 1 is better than its sister hotel...  "
