The hotel is a good 4-star by...
The hotel is a good 4-star by Vietnamese standards and the rate here in Asiarooms is probably better than any you can get for a similar class hotel in HCMC. I have stayed in more than a dozen hotels in the city for business and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who need not stay in the city centre. If you need to catch an early flight (like me) then this is the best choice 4-star hotel you can find as it is just 20 minutes (50,000 Dong +/- by taxi) from airport. The room is clean and spacious with the bed more comfortable than in local Vietnamese hotels. Also, I was delighted when they packed breakfast for me when I need to check-out at 5am. This is service I am impressed with.

A way from the centre of Saigon, but in the Saigonese street food centre, it is a (cheap) taxi ride to the tourist attractions, but this hotel is spacious and offers cleanliness and good rates.
The swimming pool is not too small but do not get caught out by the confusing spa arrangements; speak to a member of hotel staff as the spa is operated by self-employed therapists that beg for tips mercilessly.
I would return because of the value, but there are other swankier hotels that cost a little bit more a lot more centrally.

I stayed here as it seemed to be somewhere relatively convenient to the airport the night before I left Vietnam. I was really happy with this hotel and wish I could have stayed longer. I'm not sure how handy it would be to the sightseeing locations in district 1, but it wasn't that much more expensive than a 3 star I stayed in in district 1, and Ramana was a much nicer place. The service was excellent and the rooms were very nice and comfortable. The business centre is open 24hrs and the cafe downstairs seemed very good. There is also a great gift shop.

Overall, the morning breakfast buffet spread and the concierge service deserves my two thumbs up. The reception service, the hotel location and sauna/massage services were a letdown. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the sauna/massage services.Upon checking in, we were given a discount card to enjoy an array of beauty treatments for USD14. These treatments include sauna, massages (foot & body), hair washing, body srubbing and a few more. However, when we approached the reception area where these treatments are held, we were told that we need to pay tips for every treatments on top of the USD14. They cleverly invented some coupons for the tips so that you will have to pay a minimum tip amount according to your satisfaction even if you are disatisfied with the services rendered. For e.g. if you think that the foot massages are exceptional, you will tick "Good" and beside this selection, there will be a tip amount indicated (e.g. USD7). Even if the service is "Bad", you will still need to pay a tip because there will be an amount indicated beside this grading. In the end, we estimated that we may need to spend much more than the USD14 for the treatments and decided to spend the money elsewhere instead.
I had called the hotel to enquire on their pick up service from the airport a day before and was told that the service would be complimentary since we're guests at the hotel. Perhaps there was a miscommunication because when we arrived, we were told that the hotel charges USD10 per pax but "discounted" it to USD20 for the 3 of us which would otherwise be USD30. I wasn't happy because the distance between the hotel and the airport is only 15 mins and charging us USD20 would be unreasonable. I had been unsuccessful in getting a reply from the hotel regarding their pick up services but did not receive a reply, hence I had to call them instead. I wouldn't have opted for the pick up service had I known earlier of the unreasonable charge. It would be a good idea if such information is displayed prominently either in asia rooms website or in the hotel's website to avoid any misunderstanding.
Upon leaving, I opted to take a taxi instead on my trip to the airport and only had to pay VND50,000 which is about SGD4.50.

Location is relatively near the railway and airport. Breakfast buffet is perfectly suited for varied palates (good blend for Asians and Westerners). Service is very efficient. Courtesy is quite good except for one instance when we checked in very early in the morning and requested where we can take a shower while waiting for our room, I was told: "that's your problem", something unexpected especially from an Asian!

Rooms are not of four stars standard. Although clean, they are old.
Hotel is not far away from district one but with their dishonest taxi drivers and bad traffic, unless you know the area well, you will end up paying more than you would like.
During my stay, the hotel is changing hands from amara to ramada(or something). Service is certainly not exceptional.
I leave Ho Chi Minh with a late night flight and so checked out exceptionally early to join a tour. Not wanting to carry all my valuables and passport with me, i request to use the hotel safety box. Was appalled when told by the receptionist that it was not allowed. Reason being - Only hotel guests could use the safety boxes and since i checked out, technically, i am not a hotel guest anymore. Nevermind that i will be leaving my luggages with them for the day.
