As usual, Asiarooms offered good service and an excellent price - this time for Goodwood Park Hotel in Singapore.
This was my first trip to singapore and thought GWP Hotel looked charming and decent value. Checkin was swift, polite and efficient, though not oozing in friendliness or welcome. I had asked for (if possible) a room in the main wing rather than Mayfair based on the pictures that looked much nicer there. So I was initially a little disapointed to find my room was in the Mayfair wing. However, the sizable balcony overlooking the pool, large dressing space and quietness were all plusses. The room was very beige and inoffensive rather than stylish or memorable. It was spacious and weel maintained.
Breakfast in the coffee lounge was typical 5 star hotel buffet style - good but nothing remarkable. Supper (around 1am) was pretty poor - even though I wanted only a light snack, I had no choice but to order a set congee menu for S$18. I finally managed to persuade them to bring just a little food, but was told I still had to pay for the congee set. Room service would have been a cheaper and better option.
The location is good. The charm of staying in an historical hotel is always much better than American chains where everything - service included - tends to be even more beige than my Mayfair wing room.
If Raffles or Fullerton are out of one's price range, i would confidently recommend Goodwood Park hotel for a stay with character in Singapore.
