We were very pleased with the Viengtai Hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was also very good especially for visiting the famous attractions of Bangkok. We would recommend the hotel to our friends. We were also very happy with the service provided by AsiaRooms.

Location good, room quiet. Beds(twin although king requested) were a little saggy, & the pillows lumpy. The replacement was no better, but sheets were replaced daily. Breakfasts were very good & a lot of variety. A good value & clean hotel close to the river transport system.

The hotel was about what we expected. A bit worn in the room - certainly nothing spectacular. The location, however, was great. A block off of Khao San Road and within walking distance to all major attractions. (This is important so you don't have to deal with the sleazy Tuc-Tuc and Taxi drivers.) Breakfasts are very good and the staff was generally helpful. We had no issues getting back our safety box deposits or with extra charges.
Getting to the airport with a metered cab is very difficult so paying less than 400 baht should be considered acceptable.

Location is crucial when staying in Bangkok...
Location is crucial when staying in Bangkok - my preference being near to the old city rather than the modern hotel blocks of Pat Pong. Viengtai certainly fits the bill is this quarter, with the Royal Palace and Wat Pho being a 10 minute walk away.
Modern, air conditioned, spacious marble foyer with comfortable chairs and friendly staff greet you on first instance, although reception could be a little more efficient. Rooms can vary apparently, but rooms on 5th floor were spacious, functional and clean. You can open windows, although humidity and street noise may prevent you doing so! A/c units are old and somewhat noisy. Had the slightly odd experience of having to take a shower with my head at an angle - ceiling of the bathroom when standing in the bath is somewhat low!
Breakfasts are fine - buffet style with European, Thai and Japanese breakfasts on offer, even if the breakfast room is somewhat clinical and anodine. Same can be said about the Rosirin Bar and Restaurant - doesn't look the place you would want to spend time in it, even if the food is good.
One huge plus for the Viengtai hotel in this area is the very pleasant swimming pool, found in the courtyard off 3 rd Floor - very welcome place to head for after the humidity of the city.
Surrounds are a little too European for my tastes - more fried eggs and bacon than rice and noodles, and only 100 metres from the Khoa San Road - but even so, great location, comfortable, functional hotel, very 'easy' place to stay - and that swimming pool is an enormous bonus.

We have been staying at the Viengtai...
We have been staying at the Viengtai Hotel for 11 years and this time we noticed the upgrades which are very nice. The staff were most pleasant and the breakfast is wonderful. The hotel was clean. Our only complaint would be the bad sewer smell that comes up through the drain in the bathroom floor. It was very strong this past visit but we found by putting a towel over the drain that it helped immensely.
We will use Viengtai again and have several friends whom we have recommended the hotel to for the near future.
